STATEMENT

We live in a world where there is more and more information, and less and less meaning – Jean Baudrillard, Simulacra & Simulation.

My work comes from observing pop and trash culture and how I connect with the gender pressures that I feel are placed on me in a hyper sexualised world. Through the tensions of consumerist mainstream culture and the search for “success”, and “happiness”, in my work I am often asking “can I buy myself a better me?”. Using performance, film, photography and sound I document my reaction to my ongoing conflict between everyday existence, commodity and gender.

I am interested in working with different man-made materials and juxtaposing them with the fragility of the body, the skin becoming a canvas and a site open to acts of conflict and abstraction. The body is pre-scripted with ideologies and expectations which I attempt to disrupt or disturb in order to find new meaning.
